Most of the flower songs in the full suite were completed in 2012, however, there are actually 4 compositions on this set that were written (in sheet music form only) back when I was in high school. "Waltz of Roses" and "Waltz of the Bleeding Heart" have been around for a long time, as have "Waltzing Wildflowers" and "Waltz of the Lilies" (which was originally called "Heart Chakra"). I revisited these older pieces and added many more tracks and harmonies, and recorded them using samples of live instruments, making them into what they are today. Of these songs, 3 are themes for groupings of flowers as
opposed to individual types of flowers. I chose to write
"Waltzing Wildflowers" because I have always been so very enchanted with fields and roadsides, littered
with colorful flowers in the spring and summer. I feel that wildflowers are best observed as a whole, however, I did end up writing themes for some types of wildflowers, such as buttercups, daisies and poppies. "Waltz of the Blossoming Trees" is
another- it was inspired by several trips along a highway, where many
kinds of blossoming trees grew for miles. The 16th waltz and finale of the first set, combines elements from all of the previous songs and also adds a brief tribute to the humble dandelion in the
middle. Of course, I ended up writing the dandelion its own waltz when I composed the last set despite this.
